Sanjiban Hospital

We’ve been here at Fuleswar for quite some time now. Most people around the Sijberia post office know where we are because it’s a big building in this part of Howrah. It gets pretty crowded in the mornings when folks start lining up. We try to keep things moving as best as we can, but you know how it is with a lot of patients. The staff here are mostly local people who grew up nearby so they know the families who come in. It’s not a fancy place but we have the beds and the rooms people need when they’re not feeling well. Sometimes the lights flicker or the fans make noise but we get the work done. Living in Kolkata or just outside it means we see all sorts of cases. We don’t really do big advertisements because news travels by word of mouth in Fuleswar. You might see us having tea at the corner shop when things slow down in the afternoon. It’s just how we run things here. There’s always someone at the desk even late at night. We’ve seen kids grow up and bring their own kids here now. It’s a busy life at Sanjiban Hospital. We don’t have those glossy brochures or a big team of PR people. It is just us and the patients every day. We handle the paperwork and the medicines and try to keep the floors clean despite all the mud people bring in from the road.
