Sadhukhan Store

Sadhukhan Store is right on Station Road in the Bauria area of Howrah, specifically Panchanantala. Being near the station means there is never a quiet moment. People are always rushing to catch a train or coming home after a long day in the city. I see thousands of faces every week. We try to keep the things they need quickly—biscuits, water, and some basic groceries for the home. The shop is small and the shelves go all the way to the ceiling. I have to move fast when the train pulls in because that’s when everyone arrives at once. It’s a lot of pressure but it keeps me moving. My clothes usually have a bit of grime on them by the end of the shift from handling all the crates and packets. The noise of the trains is something I’ve gotten used to; I don't even hear it anymore. I have a small bench where I sit when there’s a gap between trains. The floor is made of old cement and it’s worn down from all the boots and sandals. I write my orders in a simple notebook. It’s a messy, fast-paced way to live, but Bauria is my home. We don't have fancy displays, just the goods and a person behind the counter. It's just a regular station-side shop doing its thing, serving the commuters and the local families who live nearby.
