Mullick Construction

We are out in Kotalghata, which is part of the Ghoshpara area in Uluberia. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city, but we like it here. The air is a bit better than in central Howrah. We do construction work, mostly small local projects and house builds. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when the machines are running. We’ve grown up in this area, so we know most of the people around. Our office is just a simple place where we keep the tools and the books. We don't have a big website or anything. Word of mouth usually gets us the work. People see what we’ve built down the road and they ask us to do something similar. It’s a lot of manual labor and making sure the cement mixes right. Sometimes the monsoon makes work impossible for weeks. We just wait for the ground to dry and then get back to it. It’s not a fast business. We take our time to make sure things aren't falling down later. Most of the guys on the crew live nearby, so we walk to the sites together. It feels more like a community effort than a company sometimes. We just do the job and go home to our families. We don't use fancy jargon or big words when we talk to our clients. We just explain what needs to be done. If there's a problem with the materials, we say so.
