Majumdar Tea Stores

Majumdar Tea Stores is a small place on Station Road in Amta. We mostly sell different kinds of tea leaves and a few other small things that go along with them. My father was the one who started this shop a long time ago and now I am the one who looks after it. The shop is narrow and lined with wooden drawers where we keep the different tea blends. You can always smell the dry tea when you walk inside, which is something I’ve grown very used to over the years. We aren't a cafe, so we don't serve hot tea, but people come here to buy their packets for the month. We have a few stools near the front where neighbors sometimes sit and talk about the news or the weather. Station Road is always busy and loud, so sitting here gives us a good view of everything happening in Amta. We don't use any special packaging, just plain bags that we weigh out on the scale. It is a very straightforward business without any complications. When the monsoon comes, the road gets messy and we have to put up a plastic sheet to keep the rain out, but we stay open. It’s a quiet life compared to some of the other stores, and we like it that way. We just focus on our tea and our regular customers.
