Maa Raj Ballavi Variety Stores is situated in Khoriop, near Amta in the Howrah district. We are right on Amta Road, so people passing through the Betai area see us all the time. It’s a variety store, which means we carry a little bit of everything, not just food. We have household items, small gifts, and daily essentials. Being out here in Howrah, things are a bit slower than in the big city, but we still have plenty to do. We spend a lot of time organizing the different sections of the store. It can get a bit messy because we have so many different types of products. We aren't trying to be a fancy showroom. It's just a place for the local villagers to find what they need without traveling too far. We handle all the chores ourselves, from cleaning the glass cases to talking to the delivery guys. The weather can be quite humid here, so we try to keep the shop aired out. People in Khoriop know us well and we’ve been serving this community for a long time. It’s a lot of responsibility to make sure we have the right items in stock. We just take it one day at a time and keep the shop running the best we can. It’s an honest way to make a living and we appreciate the people who stop by. There is no big secret to how we work. We just show up every morning and get it done.
