Little Star

Little Star is located at 29C, Rammohon Mukherjee Lane, right in the Mandirtala area of Howrah. If you know Howrah, you know the lanes can be quite narrow and winding. Our school is one of those places that’s been part of the local scene for a while. It’s mostly for the younger kids who live nearby. The building is an older style, typical for this part of West Bengal. We have small rooms that we’ve turned into classrooms with colorful posters and drawings on the walls. It’s a noisy place, as you can imagine with little ones around, but it’s a good kind of noise. Parents usually walk their children here in the morning or bring them on a cycle. We don’t have a big yellow bus or anything like that. The teachers are mostly women from the neighborhood who have a lot of patience. We spend the day doing basic lessons, some singing, and a bit of playtime in the small courtyard we have. It’s not a big corporate school; it’s more like a second home for the kids while their parents are busy. Sometimes the monsoon rain makes the lane a bit difficult to walk through, but we stay open. It’s just a simple, local school for the families around Mandirtala. We don't have air conditioning or fancy play gyms. We just have simple toys and books and a lot of heart for the work we do.
