Khushi General Store

Khushi General Store is our small shop at 6, Sanatan Mistry Lane. We are in the Salkia area of Howrah, right near Oriya Para. It’s a narrow lane, and it can get quite busy with people walking and cycles going past. I’ve lived in Salkia most of my life, so opening a store here felt natural. We have all the usual things you’d expect—spices, snacks, toiletries, and some stationery. The shop is small, so I have to use every inch of wall space. I even hang some things from the ceiling hooks. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than two customers come in at once, but we make it work. I know everyone in Oriya Para, and they know me. We talk about the local football matches or the price of vegetables while I weigh out their pulses. Sometimes I get tired of the constant noise from the street, but I’d miss it if it were gone. I don't have a big sign or bright lights. Most people just know we are here because we’ve been here so long. The rainy season is the hardest because the lane gets muddy, and I have to spend more time mopping the floor. But business stays steady. I keep my ledger on the small desk in the corner and handle everything myself. It’s a quiet, busy life in a crowded part of Howrah, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
