Kashinath & Sons

Kashinath & Sons is located out by the Ichapur Canal Side in Santragachi. It is a quiet enough area, except for when the birds are making a lot of noise near the water. We have been here for a long time, and the building shows its age a bit. It’s a family-run place, as the name suggests. My father used to sit in the same chair I do now. We handle a variety of things here, mostly whatever the local people in Santragachi need from us. The canal can get a bit smelly in the heat of summer, but we don't mind much anymore. We have a small yard where we keep our supplies under some old tarps. It isn't a modern office with air conditioning; we just use the ceiling fans and keep the windows open. A lot of our day is spent talking to people who walk in from the canal path. We keep a ledger for everything, written by hand because that’s how we’ve always done it. It is a slow pace of life compared to the city center, which suits us just fine. Sometimes we sit outside on the bench when it’s not too hot. We are just a local business trying to keep things going the way they have been for years. People know us, and we know them, which makes the work easier.
