Jharna Stores

Jharna Stores is another one of the shops here on Nalpur Station Road in Raghudevbati, Howrah. We are right in the middle of the action near the station. It is a busy place to work, but we like the energy. We focus on daily needs like milk, bread, and different types of grains. We also keep some items for the local farmers who pass through. The shop isn't very large, so we use the walls to hang up things. Sometimes it feels like the walls are made of snacks and soap. We don't have a computer to track things, we just use a ledger book and our memory. It works fine for us. Sometimes the train noise is so loud we have to wait a second to hear what the customer is saying. That's just part of being near the tracks. We open up very early in the morning before the first train and stay until the last one has passed. It makes for long days, but we are used to it by now. My nephew comes by in the afternoons to help carry the heavy sacks. We aren't trying to be the biggest store around, just a reliable one for the people who live and work in this part of Howrah. If the power goes out, we just use candles until it comes back. It's just how we do things.
