Janata Stores

Living and working near the station in Uluberia means life moves fast. At Janata Stores, we see a lot of people rushing by on Station Road, heading toward the trains. The shop stays quite busy in the mornings and late evenings when the commuters are coming and going. It is humid here in Howrah, so the fans are always spinning, even if they don't do much. We sell basic things like lentils, cooking oil, and soap. There are always sacks of rice sitting near the entrance because there isn’t much room in the back. The floor is made of old cement and has some cracks, but it stays mostly clean despite all the foot traffic. We don't use a computer for anything, just a thick ledger and a pen to keep track of what we owe the suppliers. Some people stop for a quick chat about the train delays or the weather while we bag up their groceries. It is loud with the sound of horns and the station announcements nearby. We try to keep the stock fresh, but sometimes the delivery truck is late because of the traffic in 711316. It is just a regular shop where people get what they need for dinner. The shelves are mostly made of old wood that we painted years ago. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than two people are at the counter, but we manage to get through the rush every single day.
