Grihasthi General Stores

You will find Grihasthi General Stores on the 2nd Floor of Mohini Bhawan. It is located at 16/6, Round Tank Lane in Howrah. Being on the second floor is a bit different for a general store, but we make it work. It means carrying every crate of soda and every bag of grain up the stairs, which keeps us pretty tired by the end of the day. Howrah is a crowded place, and Round Tank Lane is no exception. There is always the sound of rickshaws and people shouting from the street below. I spend a lot of time organizing the smaller items like buttons, thread, and household soaps. Because we aren't right on the ground floor, we don't get as many random passersby, but our regulars know exactly where to find us in Mohini Bhawan. I usually have a small fan pointed right at me because it gets stuffy up here in the summer. The floor is concrete and a bit uneven in places. I keep a stack of old newspapers to wrap things up for people. It is a simple setup, really. I start my day early, checking the locks and making sure everything is where I left it the night before. 711101 is our patch of the world, and this second-floor shop is where I spend most of my waking hours. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do for the folks living around here.
