Gopal Stores

Our shop, Gopal Stores, is also situated in Radhanagar, Bauria, along North Mill Road. It’s a busy little corner of Howrah where everyone seems to know everyone else. We’ve set up our business to provide the basic household items that families around here use every day. We carry things like cooking oil, spices, and tea. The shop itself is quite small, so we have to use every bit of wall space for shelving. It can feel a bit packed when more than two people are inside at once. We usually have a radio playing in the background or just the sounds of the street coming through the open door. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we have a small table fan that we keep running. We don't do any big advertising or anything like that. Our business comes from the people who live in the narrow lanes nearby. They come to us because we are close and they know they can get a fair deal. We try to keep our prices steady even when things get more expensive elsewhere. It’s a lot of work to keep everything clean and organized, but we take pride in it. Every morning we sweep the front and get ready for the first customers. It’s just how life goes here on North Mill Road. We’re just a part of the local landscape.
