Dr. Lahiri Clinic

Our place is at 8/1 Andul Road in Howrah. If you know the area, you know how packed and lively Andul Road can get. There’s always a horn honking or someone shouting, but once you step into the clinic, it’s a bit different. The building is older, and the entrance is tucked away. We’ve been at this spot for quite a while, so the walls have that lived-in look. There are some wooden chairs in the waiting area that have been there since we opened. They’re sturdy, even if they aren't the most comfortable things in the world. I spend most of my day in the back room. It’s got a high ceiling and one of those old-fashioned ceiling fans that wobbles a little when it’s on the high setting. We get a lot of people coming in from the nearby shops and the residential blocks around Howrah. It’s a real mix of folks. Some come in complaining about the damp weather, others just need a quick check-up. We don’t have a fancy computerized system; we still do a lot of things the old way with pens and paper logs. It makes it feel more personal, I think. Sometimes the tea stall next door brings over a snack, and we sit for five minutes before the next person comes in. It’s a busy life, but it’s ours. We just keep the door open and wait for whoever needs us.
