Brindaban Mullick Lane is a busy place, and Rani Spring Hardware sits right at No. 10/6. We spend most of our time among bins of metal springs and heavy hardware. It isn’t the kind of place you’d come for a quiet chat, as there is always some noise from the street or the back room where we sort the stock. The walls are lined with wooden shelves that have seen better days, and they are packed tight with every kind of spring you can imagine. Most mornings start with the sound of the shutters going up and a quick sweep of the floor. We’ve got a small desk near the front where the ledger sits, usually covered in a bit of dust because it’s hard to keep things perfectly clean with all this metal around. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It is just us here, making sure we have what people ask for when they walk through the door. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit disorganized, but we usually know where everything is if you give us a minute to look. The light in here is a bit dim during the rainy season, but we make do. It is a simple life in the shop, dealing with regular customers and the occasional person who got lost looking for another lane. We just keep our heads down and get the work done, day after day.
