Basu Stores

Basu Stores has been here on College Road for a long time now. If you know South Bagnan, you know how busy this stretch gets during the day. We sit right here in Howrah and watch the students go back and forth from the college every single morning. It is not a very fancy place, just a regular shop where we keep the things people actually need. Most days start early before the sun is even fully up because that is when the first deliveries arrive. Boxes of stuff get piled up on the floor and we have to sort them out before the first customers walk in. Sometimes the fans make a lot of noise and it gets a bit dusty with the traffic outside, but that is just how it is. We try to keep everything in stock, from soaps to snacks, so people don't have to go too far. My father used to handle things differently but now I look after most of it with one or two helpers. It is hard work staying on your feet all day. People come in asking for things we might have sold out of, and we just tell them to come back tomorrow. The neighborhood has changed quite a bit over the years but the store stays mostly the same. We don't have big signs or anything. Just the name on the front and the same old shelves. It’s just a shop.
