You can find us at Hakur Rice & General Mills out in Village Sandhwal. We are located quite close to the Hajipur Post Office in the Hoshiarpur district. Being in a village means things move a bit slower than in the big cities, which suits us just fine. The mill is a large structure that has been part of the landscape for a while. When the harvest season starts, the whole place changes. It gets very loud and very busy with tractors coming in from the local fields. We spend a lot of hours on our feet, making sure the rice is moving through the machines correctly. The air often smells like dry husks and earth. It’s hard work, and our clothes usually end up covered in dust by lunch. We take our breaks in the shade near the back office. The post office nearby is a good landmark for people who aren't from around here. We don't have a paved parking lot or anything fancy like that, just flat ground where the vehicles can park. Most of the people working here are from the surrounding villages, so we all know each other’s families. It’s a practical life, centered around the seasons and the crops. We just try to keep the machinery in good shape and make sure the grain is handled right before it goes out. It's a long day usually, but that's just part of it.
