Dhaniram Puranchand

Dabbi Bazar is one of those places where you can't even walk straight without bumping into someone, and that’s where Dhaniram Puranchand is located. The shop is tucked away in the middle of all that chaos, and it’s been there for generations. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, and we have to use an old wooden ladder that creaks every time someone climbs it. It’s not a modern store with glass doors; it’s the kind of place where you stand at the counter and ask for what you need. The floor is made of old stone that has been worn smooth by years of people coming in and out. We spend most of our time weighing things out or pulling items from the back store which is even more crowded than the front. There is always someone sitting in the corner drinking tea and chatting about the market prices. The noise from the bazar never really stops, with vendors shouting and scooters trying to squeeze through the lanes. It gets quite stuffy in the afternoons, so we keep a couple of old pedestal fans running to move the air around. We don't have a computer system that tracks everything perfectly, so we still rely a lot on handwritten ledgers and memory. It’s a bit slow and old-fashioned, but it’s the only way we know how to run the business in Dabbi Bazar.
