Anbu Rice Mill

Our rice mill is over in V.P.O. Mukhliana, right in the Hoshiarpur district. It’s a place that stays pretty loud and dusty when the machines are running. We have been here for a good while, and the locals all know the sound of the mill starting up in the morning. We take in the raw paddy and get to work processing it. There’s a lot of heavy lifting involved, moving the big sacks of grain from the trucks into the milling area. It’s a repetitive job, but it has to be done right to get the rice clean. The floors are usually covered in a thin layer of husk and dust, no matter how much we sweep. We have a small crew of workers who have been with us for years. They know exactly how to adjust the machines when something sounds a bit off. The weather in Hoshiarpur can be tough, especially the heat in the summer, but the mill keeps going. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people usually just drive their tractors up to our gate. We keep a ledger of what comes in and what goes out, and that’s about as technical as it gets. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from dawn until the sun goes down. Most of the time, we are just focused on the next batch of grain and making sure the machinery doesn't overheat in the midday sun.
