Jayanti Dal Mill

We are located in Ward Number 12 in Dobh Village. It’s part of the Semri Harchan post office area, within Babai Tehsil. The mill is in Hoshangabad District. If you are looking for us, we are quite close to the SBI Bank branch. The mill is a noisy place because of the machinery running to process the dal. You can smell the grain in the air as soon as you get close to the gate. It’s a dusty job, and we all end up with a bit of it on our clothes by the time we go home. The building is a large shed-like structure made to hold the heavy equipment and the sacks of produce. We don't have a formal office; just a small corner with a table where we keep the registers and papers. Most of our day is spent on the floor, making sure the machines are working right and the bags are being moved to the right spot. The village is quiet, but the mill stays busy. We work according to the seasons and what the farmers are bringing in. When the trucks arrive, everyone has to move fast to get things unloaded. It is physical work and it’s often hot inside the shed. We don’t have much in the way of decoration. The focus is always on the machines and the dal. It’s a basic operation that has been here for a while.
