Victoria Jute Works

Down on Sk Akbar Ali Road in the Telinipara area, we have been operating Victoria Jute Works for many years. We are located in the Hooghly district, which has a very long history with the jute trade. Our office is at number 5, and it’s a building that has seen a lot of use over the decades. It’s a bit of a dusty environment because of the nature of what we do, but that is just part of the job when you’re dealing with jute. We aren’t located in a big city center like Kolkata, even though the mail eventually heads that way. Being out in Telinipara means things are a bit slower and more personal. We know most of the people who walk past our doors every morning. Inside, the rooms are filled with the sound of old fans and the shuffling of ledger books. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team to tell our story. We just focus on the production side and making sure the jute is ready for whoever needs it. Some days it gets incredibly hot and humid near the river, and we all just have to slow down a little bit. It is a very hands-on kind of business where you get your hands dirty and you don’t worry too much about looking polished. We just keep the machinery going and handle the paperwork as it comes across the desk at Sk Akbar Ali Road every single day.
