Shayama Fashion is based out in Hooghly, specifically in Bhadrakali along Sukanta Sarani. Our office is actually inside Tulsi Apartment on the third floor, Flat 304. It’s a bit different from being in the middle of Kolkata because it's a bit more residential and quiet around here. We started this business to handle clothing and fashion supplies without needing a huge industrial space. It’s basically a converted apartment, so it has a very homey feel to it. You’ll find us sitting around the main table sorting through orders or checking the quality of the latest batch of clothes we received. Because we are on the third floor, we get a bit of a breeze, which is nice in the summer. We don't have a reception desk or a sign with bright lights. Most people find us because they already know where we are. Our team is small, mostly people from the local area who can walk or take a short rickshaw ride to get here. We don’t have big fancy meetings. We just talk about what needs to get done over lunch. It’s a very straightforward way of working. We handle the garments, pack them up, and get them shipped out to the retailers who need them. It’s a honest living and we enjoy the pace of life here in Hooghly, even when the power goes out or the stairs feel a bit long to climb.
