Down here at Shyamal Mandal in Konnagar, we handle things for Shaoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd. The address is 819 Arabinda Pally, right in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city, but we like the pace here. Konnagar has a certain old-school feel to it. Our office is busy with the sounds of the ceiling fans and people talking over each other. Being in West Bengal, we deal with a lot of humidity, which isn't great for the stacks of paper we keep. We are mostly engineers and site supervisors working on various local projects. We don't spend much time on fancy presentations. Most of our work is done on the ground or at these old wooden desks. We’ve got a small kitchen where we make tea and someone usually brings in snacks from the local market like some fresh sweets. It’s a friendly atmosphere, but we take the work seriously because construction isn't something you can mess up. We’ve been at this location for a while and the people in Arabinda Pally know us by name. It’s not a corporate glass tower, just a practical workspace where we figure out how to build things properly. We don't have any grand statements to make; we just show up and do what’s on the schedule for that day and hope the rain doesn't stop the work. It is a simple life but it keeps us very busy all year round.
