Shree Velvet Industries

Shree Velvet Industries is located at 618 G. T. Road, right in the Battala area of Serampore. If you’ve ever driven down G. T. Road, you know how the traffic can get. It is noisy and busy from morning until night. Our building is an old one, and it has that specific smell of fabric and age. We spend most of our time dealing with rolls of velvet. There is usually a bit of lint floating around in the air, which we try to sweep up every few hours. The fans on the ceiling are always spinning, trying to push the heavy air around. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the ledger and the phone. Most of the guys here have been working together for years, so we don't need to say much to get things done. When the monsoon hits, the sound of the rain on the road outside is almost louder than the cars. We usually take a break around four o’clock when the tea seller comes by. It’s a simple setup. We don't have any fancy signs or neon lights. Just the number 618 on the door. Serampore is a place where everyone knows everyone, so we get a lot of local folks stopping in just to say hello. We keep the doors open most of the day.
