Serampore Silk Printers' Cluster Welfare Foundation
About Serampore Silk Printers' Cluster Welfare Foundation – Charity & Non Profit Organisations in Hooghly
We are located at 60 G.T. Road West, right in the Mullickpara area of Serampore. This part of Hooghly has a lot of history with silk, and that is where the Serampore Silk Printers' Cluster Welfare Foundation comes in. We started this because there are so many people around here who spend their days working with fabric and dyes. It’s not a big fancy office or anything like that. Just a group of us trying to look out for the folks in the printing cluster. The G.T. Road is always busy with trucks and rickshaws, but once you step inside, it is all about the work we do for the local printers. Sometimes the weather gets really humid, which makes the printing process a bit tricky, but that is just how it is here in West Bengal. We don’t have a lot of big talk. We just focus on what the community needs on a daily basis. Most of us grew up around these workshops, so we know the smell of the ink and the feel of the silk. If you are walking down near the Mullickpara post office, you will find us easily enough. It is a simple setup. We deal with practical things that help the workers get through their week. It is more of a community effort than a formal business, to be honest. We just want to make sure the silk printers here have a bit of support when things get tough.
