If you are looking for us, we are down in Amratala Lane inside the Santiniketan Market in Chinsurah. It’s a bit of a walk through the market to find the shop. We have been here for some time now. The lane is narrow and gets quite crowded during the middle of the day. Our boutique is small, just enough room for a few people and our work. We mostly sit and work on whatever is currently on the table. It’s not a place with big signs or bright lights. Most people know us because they shop in this part of Chinsurah anyway. We deal with clothes and different types of work every day. Sometimes the rain makes the lane a bit difficult, but we keep the shop open regardless. There is a lot of noise from the market outside, but you get used to it after a while. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us doing the bits and pieces that need finishing. We keep a diary of what needs to be done, though it sometimes gets buried under some fabric. It is a practical place. We don’t spend time on making it look like a magazine photo. It’s a working shop where we handle various things. We usually have the radio playing in the background. It keeps us company while we are working on the stitches or measuring out material. We just close up when the market gets quiet at night.
