Kosmo Cottage Industries

Over in Old Kapas Danga in Hooghly, we have Kosmo Cottage Industries. It’s a small place, not a big factory with smoke and loud whistles. We do things more on a smaller scale here. The building is older, tucked away in a part of town that has been there for generations. Most of the people working here are from the neighborhood. We make things by hand mostly. It takes more time that way, but we don't mind. The rhythm of the work is steady. We don't have a big marketing team or a fancy office. I usually sit at a wooden desk near the front window to do the paperwork. The air in Hooghly can be humid, so we keep the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes through Old Kapas Danga. Sometimes we run out of materials and have to wait for a delivery from the city, which slows us down. But usually, we have enough to keep our hands busy. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows each other’s names. We started this because there wasn’t much work around and we knew how to make things. It’s not about getting rich; it’s just about having a steady trade. People walk by and wave through the open doors. We have a few simple machines, but they are old and need a lot of care to keep running. It’s a simple life at Kosmo. We just take it one day at a time here in Hooghly and keep working.
