About Govt. Of West Bengal – Metals & Minerals in Hooghly
We are located down Makhan Chatterjee Lane in the Fatakgora neighborhood. Chandannagar is a place with a lot of history, but our office is just a regular building like any other you'd find on this street. Hooghly district gets quite humid, so the air inside can feel a bit heavy during the long monsoon months. We’re not far from the river, though you can’t see it from our windows because of the other buildings. The lane is fairly narrow, so if two cars try to pass each other, it can be a bit of a squeeze and there’s usually some shouting. People in the office have been here for years, and we all know the tea seller around the corner by name. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they hold up the roof just fine and keep the rain out. We handle various things for the West Bengal government from this spot. It’s mostly desks and old wooden cupboards filled with ledgers and dusty files. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning in every room, but we make do with what we have. Most days are pretty much the same—sorting through paperwork and talking to people who come in with queries from the local area. It’s a bit of a maze getting here if you don’t know the lanes, but once you find Fatakgora, you’re basically there. It’s a quiet, working-class atmosphere without any pretension.
