Our office is over in Bhadrakali, right in the Hooghly district. It’s a quiet enough spot. Most of what we do involves drawing up plans and helping people figure out their building layouts. Whether it’s a small house or something a bit bigger, we sit down with the blueprints and try to make sense of the space. It’s a lot of measuring and re-measuring. Sometimes people come in with ideas that won't work because of the lot size, so we have to explain why the stairs can't go there. Uttarpara is an old area, so you have to be careful with how you plan things. We’ve been at this for a bit now. It’s just us here, working through the files and making sure the drawings are accurate for the municipal submissions. Dealing with the local authorities takes up a good chunk of the week. There’s always another form or a specific way they want the site plan colored. We don't do anything too fancy, just solid planning work that gets the job done. The desk is usually covered in tracing paper and pens. My tea gets cold while I’m looking at a stubborn corner of a layout. It’s a local business, so we know the neighbors and the local rules. People stop by to ask questions about their permits. We try to help out where we can. It’s just daily life for us here in Hooghly. We keep it practical and move along.
