Eastern Railway, Govt. Of India.

Our office is over in Uttarpara, in the Hooghly district. We are based on the third floor of Block-B in the Abs Abasan building. It is on Ramhari Roy Lane, which is a bit of a narrow road but we manage. Working for the government through the Eastern Railway means we have a lot of rules to follow and things usually take their time. We deal with various administrative bits and pieces here. It is a plain office with lots of registers and old files stacked up on the shelves. Sometimes the lift in the building is out of order, so we end up taking the stairs, which is good for the legs I suppose. We have got a steady routine. Most of the staff live nearby in West Bengal, so we know the area pretty well. It is not a high-pressure corporate environment. We just show up, do the work that is on the desk, and head home. The view from the third floor is not much, just the rooftops of Uttarpara, but it is our space. We handle the tasks assigned to us by the railway department. It might seem boring to some people, but it is essential work that keeps the whole system from falling apart. We do not use any fancy software, just the usual tools we have used for years. It is just a regular government office doing its part for the trains and the people who ride them.
