We’re based in Hooghly, specifically in Bhadrakali at 79/4, B.P.M.B. Sarani. It’s a bit away from the main rush of Kolkata, which we don’t mind. Dlf Laing O' Rourke (India) Ltd. has this office to manage our work in this part of West Bengal. The building is simple and fits right into the neighborhood. We aren’t here to stand out. Most of our time is spent dealing with the nuts and bolts of our projects. We have a lot of paperwork to keep track of, from labor charts to supply lists. The office is often a bit messy with blueprints rolled up in corners and samples of materials lying around. It’s a working office, not a showroom. We deal with the local weather, the rains, and the logistics of getting things moved across the district. It’s practical work. We don’t have a big team in the office, so everyone ends up doing a bit of everything. Sometimes I’m answering the phone, and the next minute I’m checking a delivery. We don’t have any scripted speeches about what we do. We just make sure the construction goes according to the plan. It’s a steady job and we take it seriously, but we don’t feel the need to be overly formal about it. It’s just how we operate. We show up, do the work, and go home. That's about it.
