Das Battery

Our shop, Das Battery, is right on Chinsurah St. Road Chinsurah R.S. It’s a narrow place, packed with batteries of all sizes for cars, bikes, and those big backup systems people use at home. You can usually find one of us sitting near the front, watching the traffic go by when we aren't busy with a customer. The air inside always has that slight metallic tang from the lead and acid. We spend a lot of time testing old batteries to see if they can hold a charge or if they’re just dead for good. It’s a lot of waiting for meters to move. The station road is always busy, so there’s a constant background of horns and people shouting. We’ve got a workbench in the back where we do the messy stuff. It’s not a very organized looking place, but we generally know where everything is. If someone comes in with a dead car, we try to help them out as quickly as we can so they aren't stuck for too long. We don't do any big advertising. Most people just know we're here because they walk past us every day on their way to the train. We have a small fan that tries its best to keep us cool, but it mostly just moves the warm air around. We just stay here, selling batteries and charging them up, year after year, without making much noise about it.
