Bengal Treading Co.

Bengal Treading Co. is located on Crooked Lane, right near the Post Office in Chinsurah. It’s an old part of town in the Hooghly district near Kolkata, and you can really feel the history when you walk down the street. Our building has been through a lot of monsoons, and it shows a little bit, but it’s still sturdy. We handle different kinds of goods, mostly whatever is in demand in the local markets. Trading is a lot of back-and-forth communication. One day we’re dealing with transport issues, and the next day we’re checking inventory in the warehouse. Crooked Lane is narrow, so getting deliveries in and out can be a bit of a headache sometimes. We don't have a website with flashy photos or anything like that. Most of our business comes from people who have known us for years. We sit around a wooden table, look at the ledgers, and figure out the numbers for the week. It’s not a fast-paced corporate environment. Things take the time they take. We enjoy the routine of it, honestly. The post office nearby is a good landmark, so people don’t get lost trying to find our door. We aren't trying to change the world; we’re just trying to keep the business moving and the shelves stocked. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy and connected to the community here in Chinsurah. It's a living.
