Oms Spices

If you walk past No. 68 in the HSIIDC area on Hisar Road, you will probably smell us before you see the sign. We are Oms Spices, and we spend most of our time grinding and packing up different seasonings. The dust from the peppers and turmeric sometimes makes us sneeze, but you get used to it after a few years. It’s a loud place because the machines are always running. We have a small crew here, and most of us have been working together for a long time. The HSIIDC section is mostly industrial, so there aren't many trees around, just a lot of other sheds and workshops. We aren't trying to be some big international brand. We just focus on getting the spices right for the people who buy from us. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around for it to come back on, which gives us a chance to sit and have some tea. The floor is usually covered in a fine layer of red or yellow powder by the end of the shift. We clean it up, then start all over again the next morning. It's honest work. We don't use fancy words to describe what we do. We just take the raw stuff, process it, and put it in bags. Hisar Road is a busy stretch, so there is always traffic hum in the background while we work. It’s a basic life but we enjoy it.
