India Steel is situated at Plot No.34 in Sailu. We are right in the Athwadi Bazar area, which is the heart of the town’s trade. If you are looking for us, we are quite near the State Bank of India ATM, so there is always a lot of foot traffic passing by. Market days are especially hectic, with people coming in from all over the surrounding villages. Our workshop is filled with the sounds of hammers hitting metal and the roar of the furnace. It’s a hot job, especially in the summer months, but we’ve been doing it long enough that we don’t mind the sweat too much. We focus mostly on basic steel work that the local community needs for their homes or farms. There’s no corporate hierarchy here; we all just pitch in and do whatever needs to be done, whether it’s unloading a truck or cleaning up the scrap at the end of the shift. We usually have a bit of a crowd hanging around the front, people waiting for their orders or just stopping to chat after they finish their banking. We don’t use any complicated software to run the place, just some old notebooks where we write down what we owe and what’s owed to us. It’s a slow and steady kind of life, centered around the rhythm of the bazar and the needs of the people who live around Sailu.
