Dr Urvashi Social Foundation

Our foundation is based in Basmat, which is in the Hingoli district. We are in a house, number A/475, located right near the Parbhani road. Being near the main road means there is always a lot of dust and the sound of buses going past, but it makes us easy to find for people coming from out of town. The house is just a regular home where we have cleared out a couple of rooms to use as our office. It’s very hot in this part of Maharashtra, so we have a few old fans that run all day long. We don't have any fancy office furniture, just some plastic chairs and a big wooden table where we all sit. Most of our work is done in the local language, talking to farmers and families who live around Basmat and Hingoli. We don't have a big team of experts. It’s just us and some neighbors who help out when they can. We spend a lot of our time traveling to nearby villages on motorcycles to see what is happening. When we are back at the house, we are usually busy writing letters or trying to organize small events for the local community. It is simple, grassroots work. We don't have a big mission statement on the wall; we just have a list of people we need to visit. It’s a busy life, but it’s honest and keeps us connected to our roots.
