Gammon India

Our place is up in the mountains in the village of Sainj, in the Kullu district. We are actually located in what everyone around here calls the Gammon Colony. It is a different kind of life up here in Himachal Pradesh compared to the offices down in the plains. The air is better and the views are great, but the work can be a lot harder because of the steep terrain and the cold winters. We have our own little community here in the colony where the staff and some of the workers live together. The office is just one of the buildings in that setup. It is a simple place that keeps us dry and warm while we go through the project details and the daily logs. Everything moves a bit differently in the hills. We have to plan a lot more in advance because getting supplies up these narrow roads takes a lot of time. Sometimes the roads get blocked when it rains too much or when there is a landslide nearby. We spend our evenings together because there is not much else around to do. It is not like working in a city with big markets. We are just a group of people living and working together to get these mountain projects finished. We don't have a formal business tone here. We are just the people you see in the colony every day.
