Manik Deb here, just trying to get these forms sorted out for Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. It is funny how everything has to be in block letters these days, like we are back in primary school or something. The office gets a bit quiet in the afternoons when the sun is hitting the windows just right, but usually, there is a lot of noise from the fans. We handle the paperwork for the power projects, which basically means a lot of checking and re-checking numbers until our eyes get tired. The tea stall downstairs makes a decent cup, and that is where you will find most of us around four o’clock. It is not some fancy corporate headquarters, just a place where we do the work we are supposed to do. Sometimes the printer jams and someone has to spend twenty minutes coaxing it back to life, but that is just how it goes here. We have been at this for a while now, and the routine hasn't changed much over the years. You get used to the smell of old paper and the sound of someone typing away in the next room. It is steady work, and we try to keep things moving as best as we can without getting too stressed about the small stuff. Dealing with the Jal Vidyut projects takes patience, mostly because there is always another form to fill out or another signature needed. It is just Manik and the rest of us making sure things move along as they should.
