Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited

We are based up in the mountains at the Sjvnl Colony in Jhakri. Our office is actually in Quarter Number 14, Type-C, which is part of the housing for the people working on the Satluj river projects. Being in Shimla district means the air is cold and the views are amazing, but it also makes the work a bit harder when the snow starts falling. Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited is a big name, but our day-to-day life here in the colony is pretty quiet. We focus on the hydroelectric side of things, dealing with the water and the power generation from the river. It’s a lot of technical monitoring and making sure the machinery is running like it should. Living and working in the same colony means you see your coworkers at the grocery store or walking their kids to school. It’s a tight-knit place. We spend our shifts looking at gauges and writing reports in the office. It’s a long way from the big cities, and sometimes the roads get blocked by landslides, but we are used to that. We just keep our heads down and focus on the turbines and the water levels. It’s steady work in a very beautiful, albeit cold, part of Himachal Pradesh. There is always a pot of tea going in the office to keep everyone warm. We don't have much to do for fun up here except maybe some cricket when the weather allows.
