If you are heading down toward Gola Chowk in Hazaribagh, you’ll probably pass by our place. We are set up at the Jewar Dukan spot, right where Ravi Bhushan Gupta’s name is on the sign. It is a crowded part of town, always lots of people moving around and motorcycles squeezing through the lanes. We mostly deal in silver things here. It ranges from little toe rings and anklets that jingle to bigger items like plates and spoons for puja rooms. Silver is one of those things people around here always need, whether for a birthday or just to keep some savings. The shop isn't very big, so things are stacked up a bit, but we know where everything is kept. Hazaribagh can get quite hot in the summer, so we usually have the fan going full blast while we show people the different designs. Sometimes a customer wants something specific and we have to go through the drawers to find it. It's not a fast process. We sit, we talk, maybe we have some water, and then we look at the weight on the scales. People come from the surrounding villages too when they visit the main market. We don't do big advertisements or anything fancy like that. Most people find us just by walking past the chowk or because their parents used to come here. It’s a steady kind of life, just helping people find a bit of silver.
