Down in Mahto Tola in the Pelawal area of Hazaribagh, you'll find us. We go by Hazaribagh Handcrafted Textile Products Producer Company Limited. It’s a long name for a group of people making things by hand. We work out of a small building in the village. Most of what we do involves traditional methods. You can hear the sounds of work from the street. It’s a very local thing, with many people from the Tola involved in one way or another. We don't have fancy machines. We rely on what our hands can do. The air in Pelawal is usually quite clear, which is nice for drying things out. We have a lot of different threads and materials lying around. It gets a bit messy, but it’s a working space. We don't have a corporate office with a receptionist. You just walk in and someone will be there working on a piece of cloth. Sometimes we drink tea together and talk about the harvest or the weather. It’s a producer company, so it’s really about the people here. We try to keep the old ways going because that’s what we know. It’s not always profitable, and some months are harder than others. But we keep the doors open. It’s part of the life here in Hazaribagh. We don't need much more than what we have right here in the village.
