Bhawna Provision Stores

Bhawna Provision Stores is right in the heart of Gole Bazar on the Anaj Line. It’s a loud, busy place to be, especially in the mornings when the wholesalers are moving their goods. Our store is packed from floor to ceiling with sacks of grain, lentils, and all sorts of household necessities. There isn’t much room to move around, but we manage. We’ve got bags of rice stacked up that serve as extra seating when things quiet down. We don’t have a fancy barcode system; we know the prices by heart or look them up in a weathered notebook kept under the counter. The air is always thick with the smell of loose spices and roasted gram. People come in to chat as much as they do to shop, and we know most of our customers by their first names. It’s a lot of weighing out small portions and tying them up in plastic bags or newspaper. The floor is stone and stays cool, which is nice in the summer. We close up when the sun goes down and the market starts to thin out. It’s a tiring job being on your feet all day, but we like being part of the Gole Bazar community. We don’t do any advertising. People just know we are here on the Anaj Line. It’s a basic shop run by people who appreciate a hard day’s work and a bit of honest trade.
