If you look for us behind the Telephone Exchange in Chota Navipur, you’ll find Gaurav Hardware at Shop No 6881. We are right near the Pathwari Temple, so we hear the bells every morning and evening. It’s a good landmark because otherwise, people get turned around in these narrow back streets. The shop is full of nails, tools, pipes, and all those small bits that people need for their houses. It’s dusty work and my hands are usually dirty by ten in the morning. We don't have any fancy displays here. Everything is in wooden bins or stacked in the corners. Sometimes it takes me a minute to find exactly what a customer wants because the pile has grown too high. I’ve been working here for years and I know most of the people who come in by their first name. We talk about the weather or the news while I wrap up their items in old newspaper. It’s a small shop and it gets quite hot in the summer since the ceiling is low and there isn't much of a breeze. I have a small fan that helps a bit. We don't do any big advertising or anything. People just know we are here behind the exchange and they come when they need a part fixed or a project started. It’s just a regular hardware store for regular people doing their own repairs.
