Vijay Udhyog

Out here in Village Sarmera, life moves a bit slower than in the big cities. Vijay Udhyog is located right in the heart of this area in the Nalanda district. We have been working this land for quite some time. The soil in this part of Nalanda is actually quite good for what we do. You can see our setup from the main road through the village, with the smoke from the chimney rising up over the fields. It’s a family-run kind of vibe, where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We don’t have a website or any fancy advertisements; people usually just hear about us from their neighbors or see the piles of bricks sitting by the Post Office road. The work is hard on the back and the hands. By the end of the day, everyone is tired and covered in grit. We use the old methods mostly because that is what we know works. There is a certain rhythm to it—molding, drying, and then the long wait for the baking process. Sometimes the batches don't come out perfect, maybe a few are cracked or the color is off, but that is just how it goes when you are working with raw earth. We have seen many seasons come and go in Sarmera. The village has grown a bit, and we have supplied the materials for a lot of the newer walls you see around here. It is honest, tiring work and we just keep doing it as long as the clay lasts.
