Roy Foods

You can find us in Mathurapur, which is part of the Manikchak block in Malda. Roy Foods is basically just me and my cousins working out of this building. We handle a lot of food items, mostly dry stuff that can sit on the shelf for a while. The building is an old one that belonged to my grandfather. We had to fix the walls a few years back because the damp was getting in. Every day we get up early to check the orders. Since we are in Malda, we see a lot of people passing through on their way to the main markets. We have a small truck that we use to move things around, but it breaks down more often than I like. Most of our day is spent counting bags or talking to the farmers who bring us stuff. It is very loud in the mornings when the market nearby is in full swing. We don't have an air conditioner, just a big ceiling fan that doesn't do much when it’s ninety degrees outside. We keep a notebook of who owes us money and what we need to buy next week. It’s a bit messy sometimes, but we know where everything is. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in West Bengal. We just want to keep the shop going and maybe buy a better truck one day so we can go further.
