Our place is at C-20 in the Industrial Estate. It’s a pretty standard spot for a business like ours. We work on kinetics and mechanical engineering projects. The workshop is a large, open space with high ceilings and big fans that try their best to move the air around. It’s usually quite noisy because of the machines and the work we are doing. We have a few heavy-duty workbenches that have seen better days, covered in scratches and oil marks. We aren't the type to worry about how the place looks to outsiders. We focus more on whether the equipment is running right. Most of us have been here for years, so we know each other's habits. We have a small office area partitioned off with some glass, but it’s mostly used for storing drawings and keeping the accounts. Sometimes the rain hits the metal roof so hard we can't even hear each other talk. We just keep working through it. Our clients are mostly other industrial firms who need specific parts or specialized help. We don’t have a sales team. We just answer the phone when it rings. It’s a basic setup, but it’s where we do our best work. We don’t feel the need to be fancy or polished. We just do the job and go home to our families at the end of the shift. It is practical work and it keeps the lights on.
