Ramakrishna Mission Hospital

Ramakrishna Mission Hospital is right there in Kankhal. Kankhal is a very old and traditional place, so the hospital fits right in with its simple brick and plaster walls. We are close to the river, so you can sometimes feel a cool breeze in the evenings. The hospital stays busy because Kankhal is always full of people, especially during the festival times. We see a lot of elderly folks who have lived in this area their whole lives. The doctors here don't rush through things; they take their time to listen to what everyone has to say. Sometimes the waiting room gets so full that people sit outside on the steps. We have some old ceiling fans that hum quite loudly, but nobody seems to mind much. It’s just part of the background noise here. We try to keep the pharmacy stocked with everything people need so they don't have to travel far. The mission has been a part of Kankhal for a long time, so we are a fixed part of the community. It’s not a place with shiny glass walls or fancy elevators. We just have stairs and some sturdy ramps for everyone to use. It’s a practical building for a practical purpose. We all just do our jobs and go home when the sun sets, feeling like we did something useful for the day. There is always a lot of activity near the front gate.
