Our place, Metro Frozen Fruits & Vegetables Private Limited, is situated on Gagalheri Road. It’s a bit out of the main city center, which makes it easier for the big trucks to pull in and out without getting stuck in too much traffic. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the cold. Since we deal with frozen produce, the refrigeration units are always humming in the background. It’s a constant sound that you eventually stop noticing after working here for a few weeks. The staff usually wears heavy jackets even when it’s boiling hot outside. We spend a lot of time checking the temperatures and making sure the seals on the cold rooms are tight. It’s a practical business. We get the vegetables and fruits in, process them quickly, and get them into the freezers. There isn't much room for sitting around. On rainy days, Gagalheri Road can get a bit muddy, which makes things a bit messy around the loading docks, but we just mop it up and keep moving. We’ve got a small office area near the front where we handle the orders and the transport logs. It’s mostly just whiteboards and a couple of old computers. We aren't trying to be anything fancy; we just want to make sure the peas and carrots stay frozen like they’re supposed to until they reach the customer at the end of the line.
