Shivam Handloom

Shivam Handloom is right in the heart of Mohalla Chaklan in Jawalapur. If you walk through these narrow streets, you’ll find us easily. The air here always has a bit of lint or dust from the fabrics we handle. It’s a busy place with rolls of cloth stacked up to the ceiling in some corners. We’ve been working with handlooms for a long time. It’s a lot of physical work, moving the heavy looms and checking the threads. Our fingers get a bit rough from the material. The neighborhood is always noisy with people shouting and scooters honking, but we don't mind. We open early in the morning when the light is best for looking at the patterns. Shivam Handloom isn't a showroom; it's a workshop. There are threads all over the floor and the sound of the machines is constant. We don't have any fancy marketing. We just make the stuff and people from Jawalapur come and buy what they need. Some of the patterns are old ones we've used for years. It’s a bit messy and crowded, but that’s the nature of handloom work. We just keep the traditions going as best as we can in Mohalla Chaklan. It’s a good life, even if our backs ache at the end of the day. We are proud of the work we do here with our own hands.
