Being in Sarafa Bazar means you’re always in the middle of everything. If you know Indore, you know this market never really sleeps. At D. S. Bandhel Fancy Ornament Manufacture, we spend our hours tucked away working on pieces that people usually only see when they’re finished and shiny. The workshop has that specific smell of metal and heat. It’s small, but we make it work. Most of the guys here have been doing this for years, sitting at the same benches. We aren't trying to be some high-end showroom with bright lights and mirrors. It’s more about the actual making of the ornaments. You’ll find bits of wire and small tools scattered around most of the time. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait, maybe have some snacks from the street vendors outside. Sarafa is famous for its food at night, but during the day, it’s all business and gold. We handle the manufacturing side of things, which is a lot of repetitive work. It’s a messy process before the final product looks good. My hands are usually a bit dirty by the end of the shift. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. It feels like home even if it’s just a place of work. We don't have a big sign or anything. People who need us usually know where to find us in the lanes of the bazar.
