Hammad Paints sits right on Bulandshahr Road. If you know where the Purani Chungi is, we are very close to that. The Dharam Kanta is also right nearby, so we see all the big trucks stopping to weigh their loads. It is a dusty part of town because of all the traffic. We spend our days surrounded by cans of all different sizes. The smell of thinner and fresh paint is something you just get used to after a week or two. We have a small counter where we sit, and the rest of the space is just shelves filled with colors. People from the nearby colonies come in when they are fixing up their houses or painting a gate. It is not a big team here, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. Sometimes a customer asks for a color we have not seen in years, and we have to dig through the back to find it. The floor is a bit uneven, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint themselves, ironically. We open early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool and fresh. By the afternoon, the sun hits the front of the shop pretty hard. We do not have any air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that clicks a bit while it turns. It is a simple life, really. We talk to the truck drivers who stop by and keep the shop running as best we can every single day.
